RPI Announces Solar-powered Integrated Window System

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) has developed a solar-powered, integrated window system, the Dynamic Shading Window System (DSWS), which uses a newly developed solar-energy technology to convert the sun’s light and diverted heat into storable energy that can be used to also efficiently heat, cool and artificially light the same office building. The DSWS is made of clear plastic panels that fit in between two panes of glass. Each panel has dozens of pyramid-shaped units that hold solar cells to collect light and heat. Developed primarily for commercial buildings, the window system blocks the harshest rays from a building’s interior while allowing soft light to enter and, at the same time, the solar cells generate power. Spire Solar Chicago Announces Solar Modules for Awning and Skylight Use

Spire Solar Chicago, a unit of Spire Corp., has introduced a clear back sheet version of its 75-watt photovoltaic panel. These translucent solar modules can be used for awnings or skylights. The modules recently passed environmental and safety testing by Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and will be featured on two new construction developments in Chicago. Sheffield Green Condominiums in Lakeview incorporates the panels as awnings and Bethel New Life's Lake Pulaski Commercial Center in Chicago’s West Side uses the modules for cornices. BP Solar Launches New Solar Module

BP Solar’s new BP 3125 125-watt, 12-volt solar module features the debut of the IntegraBus technology and 157mm² multi-crystalline cell, the largest cell currently commercially available. These features give the BP 3125 enhanced reliability and the highest rated power output for a 12-volt product, which should make it a popular choice for off-grid applications such as telecommunications, water pumping, and remote home systems, according to BP Solar.

The BP 3125 is available in two versions. The 3125U, featuring a high-capacity junction box, is designed for caravanning, boating, camping, industrial systems and remote homes where 12-volt loads are present. The BP 3125S, featuring polarized multi-contact connectors, is for large off-grid installations and on-grid residential systems. For more information, visit www.bpsolar.com.
